…Wolf-Dieter Heiss! The Austrian-born scientist with so many talents was honored with the Wepfer Award of the ESC 2011 for outstanding achievements in stroke research and his lifework in the field of neurology. After a very personal laudation for Heiss, given by his former student Dr. Sobesky, the Program Committee Chairs José Ferro and Michael Hennerici bowed their heads (metaphorically as well as physically) before the celebrated scientist.
